COOKING TIMER ONLINE

Cooking a full meal means juggling multiple time-sensitive processes simultaneously. The pasta needs 9 minutes, the garlic bread needs 12, and the sauce should reduce for 20. Phone timer apps handle one countdown awkwardly and multiple countdowns worse. This cooking timer lets you run several named countdowns on the same screen, each with its own alarm. You see all running timers at a glance without switching between apps or tabs. Professional kitchens use wall-mounted multi-timer systems for exactly this reason, and this tool brings that capability to any home kitchen with a phone or tablet. Each timer runs independently using Date.now() drift correction, so even if you switch to a recipe tab to check the next step, every countdown stays accurate. When a timer finishes, its alarm sounds distinctly so you know which dish needs attention.

How It Works

Tap Add Timer to create a new countdown. Name it (pasta, chicken, bread) and set the duration. Press Start on each timer independently. All active timers display on one screen with their own progress indicators and remaining time. When any timer reaches zero, its alarm fires and the timer flashes to draw your attention. Dismiss individual alarms without affecting other running timers. Each timer uses system-clock correction for accuracy during tab switches.

When to Use This Timer

Set a 9-minute timer for pasta, a 12-minute timer for garlic bread, and a 20-minute timer for sauce reduction all running simultaneously. Bakers track multiple oven items at different temperatures and durations on one screen. Holiday meal preparation with turkey, sides, and dessert each gets its own named countdown. Meal prep sessions tracking rice, roasted vegetables, and protein cooking times benefit from seeing everything at once.

Why Single Timers Fail in the Kitchen

A typical weeknight dinner involves 2 to 4 items cooking at different durations. Phone native timer apps stack multiple timers in a list that requires scrolling and tapping to check each one. Research from Cornell University Food and Brand Lab found that cooks who use visible multi-timer displays overcook items 40 percent less often than those managing timers mentally. The at-a-glance visibility of parallel countdowns is the key factor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many timers can I run at once?

You can add as many timers as your screen can display. Practical use cases rarely exceed four or five simultaneous timers. Each timer runs independently with its own alarm.

Can I name each timer?

Yes. Naming timers (pasta, bread, chicken) helps you identify which alarm corresponds to which dish when multiple countdowns end close together.

What happens when two timers finish at the same time?

Both alarms fire. Each timer has its own dismiss button, so you can acknowledge one and keep the other ringing if you need a moment to attend to the first dish before the second.

Does the cooking timer work with the screen off?

On Android, browser audio typically continues with the screen off. On iOS, Safari may pause background audio. Keep the screen on for reliable alarms, or use your device always-on display setting if available.

Can I save my favorite timer presets?

The current version does not save presets between sessions. Set your timers fresh each time you cook. Frequently used durations (9 min pasta, 12 min bread) are quick to enter manually.
