CLASSROOM TIMER WITH MUSIC
Calm background music while the countdown runs, silence and an alarm when time is up. Pick a length, press Start, go fullscreen.
CLASSROOM TIMER WITH MUSIC
Background music does two jobs in a classroom. While it plays, it signals that students are in a work period and softens the room's noise level. When it stops, everyone knows time is up without the teacher raising their voice. This timer puts both on one screen: a large countdown with a color-changing ring, calm music that starts when you press Start, and a fade-out followed by the alarm at zero.
How it works
Choose a length with the presets or the plus and minus buttons, pick a music style, and press Start. Pause stops both the countdown and the music; Reset clears the timer. The music is generated in your browser from gentle, lyric-free notes, so it never needs to download and there are no ads or surprises halfway through, unlike a video playlist. Use Preview to set the volume before class.
Which length for which activity?
| Length | Good for | Music style |
|---|---|---|
| 5 minutes | Cleanup, transitions, lining up | Soft focus |
| 10 minutes | Warm-ups, quick writes, partner work | Calm piano |
| 15 minutes | Station rotations, independent practice | Calm piano |
| 20 minutes | Silent reading, longer tasks, group projects | Calm piano |
| 30 minutes | Tests and essays (consider music Off) | Off |
Tips for using music in class
Keep the volume lower than your speaking voice so instructions still carry. Use the same music style for the same routine, such as Soft focus for cleanup, so students learn the cue. For tests and reading assessments, switch the music off and rely on the visual ring. If a student finds background sound distracting, headphones or a seat farther from the speaker usually solve it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of music does the classroom timer play?
Calm, generated background music: soft piano-like notes over slow chords. It has no lyrics and no sudden changes, so it does not compete with instructions or reading. It is created in your browser, so there is nothing to download and no copyright concern for classroom use.
Does the music stop when the timer ends?
Yes. The music fades out when time is up and the alarm sounds, which gives students a clear audio cue that the activity is over. Pausing the timer also pauses the music.
Can I use the timer without music?
Yes. Choose Off in the music menu and it works as a normal visual classroom timer with the color-changing ring and alarm.
How do I show the timer to the whole class?
Press the fullscreen button and project the page on your screen or smartboard. The digits and ring are sized to be readable from the back of a classroom.
What are good timer lengths for class activities?
Common choices are 5 minutes for transitions and cleanup, 10 minutes for warm-ups and quick writes, 15 to 20 minutes for independent work and station rotations, and 30 minutes for longer tasks or quiet reading.
